Article schema generator

Article JSON-LD that
matches Google's docs.

Fill in the article's details and copy valid Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle JSON-LD, with a checklist of what Google documents.

    What Google documents for Article

From Google's Article structured data page, read 7 October 2026. Google says there are no required properties; these are the recommended ones.

Runs in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere. This checks structure and the points above. It does not tell you whether Google will show a rich result, or whether your URLs are crawlable. Test the live page in Google's Rich Results Test.

Related: which structured data Google still shows rich results for. Google Article structured data, as documented.

      How to use it

      1. 1
Fill in what the page shows

Pick Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle, then add the headline, the page URL, image URLs (one per line), the dates and the author or authors. Only use values that match what visitors see on the page.

      2. 2
Read the checklist under the output

It lists the properties Google documents as recommended for Article, which of them you filled in, and any value that looks wrong, such as a relative URL or a date that is not ISO 8601. The JSON is parsed back before it is shown, so what you copy is valid JSON.

      3. 3
Add it to the page, then test it

Paste the script block into the head or body of the article page and check it with the Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator. Check the live page, not only the pasted code.

      Questions

Which Article properties does Google require?

None. Google's Article documentation (read 7 October 2026) says: "There are no required properties; instead, add the properties that apply to your content." It documents these as recommended: author (with author.name and author.url), dateModified, datePublished, headline and image. Google's docs list no other Article properties.

Which schema.org type should I use: Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle?

Google says Article objects must be based on one of schema.org Article, NewsArticle or BlogPosting. BlogPosting is a more specific kind of Article, so it fits a blog post, and NewsArticle fits news reporting. Pick the one that matches the page; this tool writes the same properties for all three.

What does Google recommend for images?

The image URL must be crawlable and indexable, represent the article (not a logo) and be in a format Google Images supports. For best results Google recommends multiple high-resolution images, at least 50,000 pixels when width is multiplied by height, in 16x9, 4x3 and 1x1 aspect ratios. Put one URL per line in the tool and it writes them as a list.

How should I mark up several authors?

Google says to list each author as its own entry, never to merge names into one author.name, and to put only the person's or organization's name in author.name (no job title, no "Posted by"). It recommends adding type and a url or sameAs that identifies the author. The tool follows this: one author per line, written as "Name | https://author-page", all as Person or all as Organization.

What date format should I use?

ISO 8601, for example 2026-10-07T09:30:00+02:00. Google recommends including the timezone; without it Google assumes the timezone Googlebot uses. A bare date such as 2026-10-07 is also ISO 8601. The tool warns when a date has no timezone, does not parse, or when dateModified is before datePublished.

Does Article markup guarantee a rich result?

No. Google says the markup helps it understand the page and makes it eligible for features such as a title and larger images, but it does not promise any feature will show. The tool cannot know what Google will do with your page.

Do the values have to match the page?

Yes. Google's general structured data guidelines require markup to describe content visitors can see on the page. Use the headline, author and dates that appear on the article itself.

Is the output safe to paste into a page?

The output is built with JSON.stringify, and the angle-bracket and ampersand characters are written as \u escapes, so a headline that contains a closing script tag cannot end the script block early. The escapes decode back to the same characters. The JSON is parsed back and compared with what the tool built before it is shown.

Why are publisher and description in the output if Google does not list them?

They are valid schema.org properties that other consumers of structured data can use, and both are optional here: leave them empty and they are left out. The checklist keeps them separate from the properties Google documents.

How is this different from the schema markup generator?

The schema markup generator builds several types from one form. This page does one job in more depth: Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle with several images, several authors, date checks and a checklist built from Google's documentation.
