Open Graph tag generator

Open Graph tags,
previewed before you share.

Write your og: and twitter: meta tags, see an approximate share-card preview and get warnings before you publish. Nothing is fetched or uploaded.

Preview (approximate)

An approximation only. Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack and WhatsApp each crop, truncate and lay out links differently.

    How to use it

    1. 1
      Fill in the basics

Add the page URL, title, description and image URL. Pick the type (website or article) and a Twitter card type: a large image card or a small summary card.

    2. 2
      Check the preview and warnings

The card shows roughly how a link could look when shared. It is an approximation: each platform renders links its own way. Warnings flag long titles and descriptions and image URLs that are not absolute https.

    3. 3
      Copy the tags

Paste the <meta> tags into the <head> of that page. Then test the live URL with the sharing debugger of the platform you care about, because platforms cache old previews.

    Questions

    What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph is a set of meta tags, started by Facebook, that tell platforms what title, description and image to show when a link to your page is shared. LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp and many other apps read them too.

Do I need separate Twitter card tags?

X (Twitter) falls back to Open Graph tags for title, description and image, but it reads twitter:card to decide the card layout, so it is worth adding at least that one. This generator writes both sets.

What image size should I use?

A common recommendation is 1200 x 630 pixels (about a 1.91:1 ratio) for a large preview image, saved as JPG or PNG and kept reasonably small. It is a convention, not a rule: platforms differ and may crop. Keep key content away from the edges.

How long should the title and description be?

There is no official limit. Platforms cut text at different points, and many cut long titles somewhere around 60 characters and long descriptions somewhere around 150 to 200. The warnings here use rough guides, so treat them as prompts to tighten your copy, not hard limits.

Why does the shared link still show my old preview?

Platforms cache link previews. After you change tags, use the platform's debugger or re-scrape tool (for example Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector) to refresh it. Slack and others may need time or a new URL.

    Is the preview exact?

No. It is an approximation drawn in your browser from the values you typed. Fonts, crop, truncation and layout differ on each platform and change over time. This tool also does not fetch your page, so it cannot tell you what is live.

Does Open Graph affect SEO rankings?

Not directly. Open Graph tags control how shared links look, which can affect clicks from social and messaging apps. Search rankings come from other signals. Your title tag and meta description are separate: use the SERP snippet checker for those.

    Is my input sent anywhere?

No. The tags are built in your browser and nothing is uploaded. The one exception you control: if you tick "Show the image in the preview", your browser loads the image URL you typed, as any web page would, so that host can see the request.
