Setup

How you connect WordPress.

  1. Step 1

    Type your website

Balzac detects that the site runs on WordPress and offers the WordPress connection.

  2. Step 2

    Approve Balzac in wp-admin

Click “Connect with WordPress”. You approve Balzac on WordPress’s own Application Passwords screen, so there is no password to copy. Prefer to do it by hand? Enter your site URL, username and an application password instead.

  3. Step 3

    Turn on auto-publish

A new connection starts with auto-publish off. Switch it on and articles go live when they are ready, or publish and schedule them one by one.

Step-by-step guide in the help center →

What gets published

  • Title, article body (HTML), excerpt from the meta description, and the slug.
  • The cover image, uploaded to your media library and set as the featured image.
  • The post is created with the status “publish”, so it goes live right away.
  • With the Balzac WordPress plugin on your site: the SEO title and meta description copied into Yoast SEO, Rank Math or All in One SEO, and the article’s schema markup printed in the post’s head. Without the plugin, Balzac sends neither.

When you edit

  • Edit an article in Balzac after it is live and the post is updated in place, never created a second time.
  • With auto-publish on, the update goes out a few minutes after your last edit, and a post you changed on the site in the meantime is left alone. With it off, the article page offers an “Update on your site” button.
  • A post you moved back to draft stays a draft. A post in the WordPress trash is not restored until you restore it.

What you need

  • WordPress 5.6 or later with application passwords turned on, for the one-click connection. Otherwise use the manual form.
  • The REST API answering at /wp-json/, which means pretty permalinks on (any setting except Plain).
  • A WordPress user who can publish posts.

FAQ

Balzac and WordPress, answered.

How does Balzac connect to WordPress?

Through WordPress Application Passwords. “Connect with WordPress” sends you to your own wp-admin, you approve “Balzac”, and WordPress hands back a dedicated application password. You can also connect by entering your site URL, username and an application password. Never your regular WordPress password.

Does Balzac publish as a draft or live?

Live. Posts are created with the status “publish”. If you want to review first, leave auto-publish off and publish each article yourself from its page, or schedule it.

Do I need a plugin?

No. Publishing works through the WordPress REST API with no plugin. The optional Balzac WordPress plugin adds the SEO title, meta description and schema markup on the post, and is detected automatically when it is installed.

What happens if I edit the post in WordPress?

An automatic update leaves a post alone when it was changed on your site after Balzac last sent it. Updating over your changes only happens when you ask for it from the article page.

Can I schedule WordPress posts?

Yes. Each article can be published now or scheduled for a date and time you pick, and a schedule can be cancelled before it runs.

Does it cost extra?

Auto-publishing is part of the autopilot, so it needs an active plan. Your first 3 articles are free, no card needed, and your connection is saved either way.
